IN 1971, ROB QUIT HIS JOB AT CROWELL COLLIER & MACMILLAN, DROPPED OUT OF NYU AND RE-LOCATED TO BRUXELLES, BELGIUM.....THE SEAT OF THE COMMON MARKET.  HE MOVED HIS STUDIO TO AVENUE LOUISE, ACROSS FROM L'ABBEY DE LA CAMBRE......WHERE HE STUDIED CLSSICAL PAINTING......HE ALSO ATTENDED ALLIANCE FRANCAIS, TAKING COURSES IN THE FRENCH LANGUAGE.  HE ADAPTED QUICKLY AND FREQUENTLY THE GREAT MUSEUMS IN BELGIUM.
WILLIAM GRAHAM OF THE BALANCI-GRAHAM GALLERY IN PARIS.....INCOURAGED HIM TO MOVE TO PARIS AND SHOW IN HIS GALLERY.

IT IS SAID THAT IT NO MORE THAN ONE DAYS ROAD TRIP.....TO DRIVE ANY PLACE IN FRANCE, FROM PARIS.  MANY ROAD TRIPS WERE TAKEN TO MUSEUMS AND SITES THROUGHOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.  I USED THE GI BILL AND ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY IN PARIS, MOSTLY ART HISTORY COURSES....ONE WAS HISTORY OF GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE, WHICH TOOK ME WITH PROFFESORS TOFIRST HAND EXPERIENCES TO MOST OF THE IMPORTANT CATHEDERALS THROUGHOUT FRANCE.  MY FAVORITE WAS CHARTRES......AND WARRANTED A SERIES OF PAINTINGS.  NOTEABLE, WAS THE CATHEDERAL IN TOULOUSE, WHERE I WOULD RETURN TO THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY MUCH LATER IN LIFE.....TO BIARRITZ ON THE BAY OF BISCAY; NEAR THE PREHISTORIC CAVE PAINTINGS OF LASCAUX AND PECHE MERLE.....IN THE PYRANEES.

BUT THEN, TO BE IN PARIS, TO LIVE THERE....IN MY LATE TWENTIES CARE FREE AND CURIOUS.....WAS AN EXPERIENCE FEW WERE LUCKY ENOUH TO  HAVE.  YES, I WAS VERY FORTUNATE,  AND ENJOYED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

MY FAVORITE PLACE WAS THE LEFT BANK; SAINTE GERMAINE.  I WOULD WALK  TO THE UNIVERSITY FROM MY APARTMENT IN NEUILLY...THROUGH THE PLACE DE CONCORDE, PAST THE EIFFEL TOWER EACH DAY TO COLLEGE.  WALKING AND TAKING THE SUBWAY; THE METRO, AS I DID IN MANHATTAN WAS MY FAORITE WAY TO TRAVEL THROUGH PARIS.  I VISITED AS MANY MUSEUMS, GALLERIES AND AUCTION HOUSES......FAIHFULLY SPENDING AT LEAST AN HOUR EVERY WEEK DAY IN THE LOUVRE.  I WAS TAUGHT TO BE AROUND AND EXPERIENCE GREAT ART WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO THE LIFELONG CAREER I HAD CHOSEN.
