Robin Gary Wood - Artist-Painter

MANHATTAN-BERLIN, 

                                                                           

ROB"S FIRST HOME IS MAHATTAN. HE LEFT THE FARMS AND FORESTS OF HIS CHILDHOOD;
AND WENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE NEW YORK CITY HIGH SCHOOL OF ART AND DESIGN

THE TRANSISTION TO THE EAST SIDE MID-TOWN MANHATTAN WAS A REAL CULTURAL SHOCK.  HE WASTED NO TIME AND ADAPTED QUICKLY.  HE WORKED AFTER SCHOOL AS A MESSENGER FOR AN AD COMPANY AND GOT TO REALLY KNOW THE HEART OF THE CITY.  THIS HELPED HIM NETWORK AND HE FELT COMPLETELY AT HOME LATER ON.  HE LIVED AND WORKED HERE THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL AND HAD HIS OWN APARTMENT.  

HE ATTENDED COOPER UNION AND OFTEN WENT TO MUSEUM AND GALLERY OPENINGS.  THIS BEGAN A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSEUMS AND THE ART WORLD...…..A NATURAL EXTENTION OF HIS PAINTING.  THIS ART SCHOOL GAVE HIM A STRONG BACKGROUND IN ADVERTISING AND PUBLISHING; WHICH ALLOWED HIM TO MAKE A LIVING WHILE PURSUEING HIS ART CAREER.

HE WAS DRAFTED IN 1966 AND WAS AN MP IN BERLIN, GERMANY.  HE MET DORIS WERNER IN 1967......AN IMPORTANT RELAIONSHIP WHICH HAS LASTED OVER FIFTY YEARS.  DORIS HAS A COLLECTION OF HIS WORK IN HER HOME IN THIS GERMAN CAPITAL CITY.

IN 1968, HIS GOOD FRIEND, JIM WILKINSON, VISITED HIM IN BERLIN AND OFFERED HIM A GOOD JOB IN PUBLISHING, IN NYC AT THE TERMINATION OF HIS MILITARY OBLIGATION.  HE WORKED IN NEW YORK CITY AND HAD A STUDIO IN THE HAMPTONS.  ON WEEKENDS, HN THE WINTER HE SKIIED IN VERMONT WHERE HIS FAMILY LIVED.....ON CHRISTMAS VACATION HE SKIIED IN ZERMATT, SWITZERLAND AND INNISBROOK, AUSTRIA.  HE LOVED SKIING AND BECAME VERY ADEPT AT THE SPORT.  (to be continued)
